#STAR WARS A ROGUE ONE RELEASE DATE MOVIE#
I prefer to call these "nods" than actual "fan service." Yes there are characters from A New Hope peppered throughout the movie but that feels more like an acknowledgment that these individuals existed within the sequence of events. It has structure issues and the well-noted reshoots are glaringly obvious, but I'm less bothered by what people call "fan service" in this film. Now that the Skywalker Saga is over, Solo was just okay, and The Mandalorian crushed it on Disney+ - I'm firmly in the camp that Rogue One was one of the best things to happen to Star Wars in the last few years. The 3-D release only strengthened that position. When I reviewed it for the advance digital release, the second time through was much better than that first time out. When I first saw it in theaters I liked it overall but it had issues with the notable reshoots and some of the constant fan service. So, whatever the numbers are,…I'm honestly just so grateful that the movie's out there and has been well-received.I've had a bit of a back and forth over the last couple years about how I feel about Rogue One and its place inside the overarching saga that is the galaxy far, far away. I'm just so glad people get to see all the work that this amazing crew and cast did. Personally, I believe that while it's likely that Disney, who own both Lucasfilm and Marvel, will decide to boost the release of one of their most anticipated blockbusters, Civil War, with footage of another one of their films, they probably won't wait that long to release the first trailer. That suggests that Disney knows exactly what they are doing when it comes to promoting the upcoming installments to the Star Wars franchise. Their publicity campaign for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been roundly praised, especially since it has so far grossed $1.6 billion after being in cinemas for just three weeks. It will be interesting to see if Disney will wait all the way until May to release the first Rogue One trailer. Again, that would makes sense too, since the sporting extravaganza draws one of the largest audiences in all of television.
